Debbie Wardrope, a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, received her education at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. She graduated “With Distinction” with a BFA in illustration. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast and is active in several regional art associations. She has had a solo exhibition, participated in numerous group shows including Realism! at the Adobe Art Gallery in Castro Valley and has exhibited at Art Expo New York. Her work has been shown in a number of galleries from Yountville to Carmel and her paintings are in many individual collections.
Debbie has also won numerous awards including Best of Class at the Alameda County Fair and has done painting demonstrations for the Las Juntas Art Association, the Pleasanton Art League and the Livermore Art Association as well as a workshop for San Ramon Valley School District art teachers. She offers pastel painting classes for adults and children's art classes through the city of Pleasanton.
Debbie works in a variety of media including pastel, acrylic and oil.
Debbie’s design background is evident in her tightly woven compositions and her unique ability to capture light makes her paintings glow.
Debbie loves to paint gardens, cities at night, old architecture, dogs and cats, vineyards. the beach and vintage items. She enjoys challenging herself and has recently been using a new palette and different media as well as painting some new subjects. Debbie’s artistic style and use of color, light and shadows evoke memories of a simpler, more peaceful time gone by and invite the viewer to share in these very special moments.
Debbie says, “I believe that art should be beautiful, accessible and evoke an emotional response in the viewer. I strive to create images that are immediately recognizable but are things that are frequently overlooked in the rush of everyday life. I love to capture a moment in time through the use of light and color. I want my art to glorify God and his creation and create feelings of peace, serenity and joy in the viewer.”
